History of HSH

Hellenic Society of Haematology was established in 1961 and is a private non-profit legal organization. Our Society is one of the oldest and most dynamic medical societies in Greece. Today it has 63 years of presence and has 1,418 members. There are 10 Scientific Groups covering the whole spectrum of Haematology. One of our society’s goals is to better inform patients with haematological diseases as well as to strengthen medical research and training of new Haematologists. 

Activities

Within the framework of the Hellenic Society of Haematology activities are:

  • The Annual Hellenic Haematology Congress. 
  • Educational Seminars, organized by its Scientific Departments with the approval of the Board of Directors of HSH
  • An annual Educational Program for Haematologists from all over the country covering the whole Spectrum of Haematology and training courses in Molecular Techniques in Haematology and Morphology.
  • Multicenter clinical trials and epidemiological studies are carried out on neoplastic and non-neoplastic haematological diseases.
  • Since 2015, HSH provides two scholarships of two years each to young Haematologists for post specialization training in Haematological Departments in Greece

Since 1998, the HSH has systematically organized the External quality assessment in Complete Blood Counts Tests (CBC), accredited by E.SY.D. (Hellenic AccreditationSystem), with 227 participating centers in Greece and abroad.

The official publication of HSH is the scientific journal entitled “HAEMA / ΑΙΜΑ”, which started its publication on March 1998. The journal is published quarterly and in its current form publishes clinical and scientific reviews in all areas of Haematology.

Our Society is actively involved in volunteer actions throughout Greece in order to increase blood donation and registration of new Haematopoetic Stem Cells Donors. 

Hellenic Society of Haematology is a member of the European Hematology Association and European Leukemia Net and actively participates in all EHA Congresses. In parallel HSH has a scientific alliance with the Haematological Societies in the Balkan countries and participates every year on the Balkan Day of Haematology which is held during the Annual Haematology Society congress in each Balkan country.
